Andrew Salgado, a 14-year-old from Miller Place, New York, has died following a devastating bicycle accident that occurred on March 24, 2026, along Route 25A, according to multiple local reports and official police information.
The incident happened in the afternoon when Andrew was riding his bicycle eastbound on the shoulder of Route 25A. At the same time, a Ford F-550 truck, driven by a 58-year-old man from Sound Beach, was traveling westbound and attempting to make a left turn into a business entrance. Authorities say Andrew’s bicycle collided with the passenger-side door of the turning truck.
Following the impact, Andrew was thrown from the bicycle and suffered catastrophic injuries. He was immediately transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he remained in critical condition for weeks as doctors worked to save his life.
Despite extensive medical efforts and a strong fight for survival, Andrew later succumbed to his injuries, with his passing confirmed by family members and community sources in late April 2026.
The tragedy deeply affected the Miller Place and surrounding Long Island communities. Andrew was known as an eighth-grade student and a dedicated soccer player, and his condition drew widespread attention and support. Fundraisers, including a large community pizza event and a GoFundMe campaign, raised significant funds to assist his family with medical and related expenses.
Community members rallied around the Salgado family during his hospitalization, placing ribbons, signs, and tributes at the Miller Place Duck Pond, turning it into a memorial site filled with messages of hope, prayer, and later, remembrance.
Authorities, including Suffolk County Police, continue to investigate the crash, though no criminal charges have been publicly confirmed as of now.
Andrew Salgado is remembered as a vibrant young student and athlete whose life was cut tragically short, leaving behind grieving family members, friends, teammates, and a community united in mourning his loss.
