A 60-year-old man from Fairfield, Connecticut, has died after being struck by a train at the downtown station, in an incident that remains under investigation by authorities.
According to officials, the man—identified as Kevin Charles Cassidy—was struck by a Metro-North train bound for Grand Central Terminal at approximately 8:22 a.m. at the downtown Fairfield station. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but he was later pronounced dead from his injuries.
Authorities have stated that the man was not authorized to be on the tracks at the time of the incident. While the investigation is ongoing, officials have indicated that there is currently no suspicion of foul play.
The incident caused a temporary shutdown of the station and disruptions to morning rail service, affecting commuters traveling through the busy corridor. Service resumed later in the day after emergency crews cleared the scene and authorities completed their initial response.
While some online posts have speculated about other circumstances, including claims involving a parking structure, no verified law enforcement or major news report has confirmed such details. Officials have not publicly released information suggesting how the man came to be on the tracks.
As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to review surveillance footage and other evidence to determine the full sequence of events. The incident has drawn attention to safety concerns around train stations and restricted track access areas.
